A Personal Journal

I spent last week hibernating.
I needed a break.
I turned 31 on the 19th and decided to spend a week reflecting and soul searching.
I think it did me some good.

It wasn’t intentional.
It just happened.

I spent last Monday alone.
A day of quiet solitude.
I decided to sit down and start a journal.
Something I have done many times before.
I have always kept a diary growing up but at some point I stopped.

A personal journal is important.
Besides this blog, I need a place to dump my feelings.
Let go of what ties me down.
Make lists of important things.
Keep track of little memories.

This journal will be special.
It will be artistic.
A mixed media collage of year 31.

I am just getting started and I only have two entries.
Neither of which are very artistic.
But I started.
That is the first step.

I was given this book Journal It!: Perspectives in Creative Journaling and I immediately wanted to create a journal of my own.

Not only will I be documenting my life but I will be exploring my creativity.
I learned several artistic techniques in this book that will bring this journal beyond a “dear diary” entry.

My first entry was my 31 in 31 list.
I wrote down 31 one things that I want to accomplish this year.
Some were basic, like painting my nails.
Some will take guts, take a college course.
One was a reminder, keep up with this journal.

I have lived roughly a third of my life and there is so much yet to accomplish.
Who would have thought a little composition notebook would hold so much promise?

  1. My 29th year is (quickly) coming to an end. My 30 before 30 list is still incomplete. I hope your journal is a beautiful reflection of year 31.
